The cost of Lynx and Methadone

Speaking with a pharmacist in Hull last week the issue of stock being stolen by methadone patients cropped up. We discussed the balance of the ethical issue of allowing patients to return regularly that were stealing products daily and the cost balance.

A can of Lynx deodorant costs less than two pounds to replace and Methadone as a professional service could bring in a few thousand pounds for the company. On paper the answer was obvious but interestingly he had implemented a two strike policy for methadone patients caught stealing.

He felt that the benefit of making other customers feel safe and comfortable outweighed the revenue being brought in by the service. How would you react to this issue or is this a current issue for you?
